Decorating a home is one of those things that almost everyone will have to do at one point or another during there lifetime and it can bring out the very best and worst in people. The process is often very stressful as you race against the clock to complete the work in the allotted time and yet the final outcome can bring out the most jovial of feelings.
The key to keeping home decoration free from anxiety is careful planning and the acceptance that more than one thing will go wrong during that time. This realisation will mean you are prepared for any circumstance and allow you to keep calm and consider all possible solutions to the issues that arise.
Time management is important while decorating a room or home so before you begin try to work out how long each part of the process will take; then add another 25% to this as most people inevitably underestimate the time it takes to do certain things. Plan the work out in a flow chart so that you are not waiting in between jobs before you can start on another. For instance, you do not want to be waiting for paint to dry before you sand a floor and you should try to paint ceilings before laying carpets or other flooring.
If you have pets or children then you should try, at all costs, to find somebody else to look after them while the work is going on. This is not only to massively reduce the stress that working around them would certainly induce but also for the health of the kids and animals. Paint fumes, dusty air and various harmful chemicals are often present as you decorate so it makes sense to limit your child’s exposure to these.
Asking family and friends to get involved is another way to speed up the decorating process but if worst comes to worst you may want to consider hiring a professional painting and decorating firm to do some or all of the work. They will complete the work far quicker than you could possibly do and to a very high standard but you have to weight this up against the additional costs involved.
However you end up decorating your home, the happiness you will feel when it is complete is worth the time and effort while the knowledge that you should not have to go through it again for some years to come will only add to your joy. |
